Doshas are the
physiological factors of Ayurveda. It is interesting to note that age has an
influence on doshas.
Childhood:
Whatever the prakriti of a person kapha has a profound influence on all
individuals. As we know kapha is anabolic in nature or the factor that
is responsible for growth, development and acquired immunity. Say from
childhood to late teens kapha has a role. Babies are mostly chubby and
they sleep a lot; qualities of kapha.
Children are more
prone to diseases of kapha vitiation.
Pitta is fire and
anything fiery can be attributed to pitta. The pitta qualities dominate during
middle ages. (Late teens to mid-forties) Age of rage, passion, love and haltered
etc. This is also the period when our hormones including gynecological and androgenic
and testosterone are at its peak. Most youngers have voracious appetite!
Disease wise also
we face lot of problems due to vitiation of pitta during this period of time.
Vata on the other
hand has a dominance during old age. It is the time when vata diseases are on
the rise. Dryness is synonymous with vata and our skin and hairs turns grey and
dry during this phase. Dryness internally causes constipation. Lack of sleep is
also found during old age.
